The Lemosho Route via Arrow Glacier is one of the most adventurous and challenging treks on Mount Kilimanjaro. Known for its stunning scenery, low traffic, and remote feel, this trail takes climbers across diverse landscapes, from lush rainforest and expansive Shira Plateau to the rugged Lava Tower and the demanding Arrow Glacier climb. The route includes a tough rock-scramble ascent to the crater before reaching Uhuru Peak (5895m), the highest point in Africa. This trek is best suited for experienced hikers seeking both challenge and breathtaking views.

Itinerary

After an early breakfast, transfer to the Lemosho Gate for registration. Trek through lush rainforest, spotting wildlife such as monkeys and birds, before reaching Big Tree Camp (2780m) for dinner and overnight.

After breakfast, hike through heath and moorland zones, enjoying expansive views as you ascend to Shira 1 Camp (3500m) for dinner and overnight stay.

After breakfast, continue your trek across the Shira Plateau with beautiful panoramas. Stop for a picnic lunch at Simba Camp (3640m), where you’ll also have dinner and overnight.

Depart Simba Camp and ascend gradually toward Shira 2 Camp (3900m), with incredible views of Kibo and surrounding landscapes. Dinner and overnight at camp.

After breakfast, trek through alpine desert and ascend steadily to Lava Tower (4640m). This day offers excellent acclimatization and prepares you for higher altitudes. Dinner and overnight at Lava Tower Camp.

Begin a shorter but steeper hike to Arrow Glacier Camp (4830m), situated just below the Western Breach. Spend the night here with dinner, resting for the challenging ascent to come.

At midnight, begin the strenuous climb up the Western Breach via Arrow Glacier, scrambling over rocks into the crater before continuing to the summit at Uhuru Peak (5895m). After celebrating at the top, descend to Barafu or directly to Mweka/Millennium Camp (3790m) for dinner and overnight.

After breakfast, trek through lush montane forest to Mweka Gate for check-out and certificate collection. A vehicle transfer will return you to Arusha or Moshi, marking the end of your Lemosho via Arrow Glacier adventure.
