The Umbwe Route is the shortest, steepest, and most challenging trail on Mount Kilimanjaro. Itinerary

After an early breakfast, transfer to Umbwe Gate (1640m) for registration and permits. Begin trekking through dense rainforest with steep climbs, following a narrow ridge uphill. Arrive at Umbwe Cave Camp (2930m) for dinner and overnight stay.

After breakfast, depart Umbwe Cave and ascend steeply through heath and moorland zones. Lunch is served en route before reaching Karanga Camp (4035m), where you will enjoy dinner and overnight stay with breathtaking views of glaciers and valleys.

After breakfast, continue the climb through rocky and alpine desert terrain toward Barafu Camp (4640m), the base for the summit attempt. Arrive in the afternoon, rest, and have an early dinner in preparation for summit night.

At midnight, begin the final ascent to Uhuru Peak (5895m), trekking through steep slopes and switchbacks under starlight. Reach the summit at sunrise, celebrating at the highest point in Africa. Descend back to Barafu Camp for breakfast, then continue down to Mweka Camp (3080m) for dinner and overnight stay.

After breakfast, trek down through rainforest trails to Mweka Gate for check-out and certificates of achievement. Meet your transfer vehicle back to Arusha or Moshi, marking the end of the Umbwe Route trek.
